Brooke Shields Long Island Home

I’ve admired Brooke for years and was so excited to see her interior design style in the September issue of Better Homes and Gardens.   She purchased this Long Island home with her husband and decorated it 100% herself.  Take a look…

Brooke Shileds Living Room BHGI love the colorful yet casual approach in the living room.  “A little color goes a long way,” is Brooke Shields’s decorating philosophy.  In her living room, she covered floral chintz chairs inherited from her mother in hot pink, don’t you just love them.

Brooke Shields BHG Family RoomThe family room has a continued beachy vibe which is throughout the entire home. A clear coffee table sits in front of the sofa for a clutter free look.

Brooke Shields Nook BHGThe breakfast nook is comfy, casual and warm with the wall color and touches of texture.  Fun pops of yellow and blue are in the bistro chairs and pillows along the banquette.  The table base is in a chrome finish and the beach scene print is by Vincent Laforet.

Brooke Shields Kitchen BHGBrooke wanted an all white kitchen for her beach dream house for the bright and clean look that it gives.  The high gloss subway tiles give a glamorous touch and the vintage inspired hardware character.

Brooke Shields Living Space BHGGlamorous and laid back is what Brooke accomplished in her family room basement.  Both the taupe sofa and hot pink swivel side chair are from where is else, La-Z-Boy. Brooke has been the spokeswomen for them for year now.

Brooke Shields Bedroom BHGThe bedroom is so lovely, I adore the soft blue walls and pops of the continued hot pink.  She shipped the Baroque resin mirror from a NC thrift shop, when it arrived, it was twice a big as she expected. “The seller only displayed half of it,” she laughs.  She painted it white and I love it.

Brooke Shieds Bedroom Hierloom BHGAn heirloom piece from her mother of an English handled vase sits on her dresser filled with beautiful fresh flowers.

Brooke Shields Office BHGBrooke’s office is filled with soft colors and gray walls.  The slip cover chair and ottoman are from La-Z-Boy.  “I love rooms filled with pieces that tell a story, that have a history, that have been well-loved,” says Brooke.

Brooke Shields Outdoor Patio BHGThis 1920’s cottage has a perfect outdoor patio for Brooke and her husband Chris to entertain.  “I make a super refreshing cucumber vodka with muddled lime and agave,” she says.

Coastal Interior Decorating

Coastal interior decorating is a style that is requested quite a bit from local and online e-design clients.  Being in California it’s naturally a popular look and design style for homeowners.  Here is an example of an e-design client project for an entry/foyer I recently finished.  My client needed a console table, storage and favored geometric shapes as well as natural elements.

Foyer e-Design by Stellar Interior Design

Foyer 1 – includes a white modern console table with drawers, rattan ottomans with lids for shoes and whatnots.

Foyer 2 e-Design by Stellar Interior Design

Foyer 2 – includes an elegant natural finished console table and alternative area rug.

Colorful Interiors

The September issue of House Beautiful features a 1930″s Long Island home with colorful interiors and dashes of Hollywood Regency and the Far East.  The home owner really pushed for these interiors and I have say I love them all.

House Beautiful Acid Green

I’m loving the acid green walls in this living room designed by interior designer Catherine Brown Paterson

House Beautiful orange-roomThe home office is cheery with bright orange walls with upholstery in Trina Turk and Lilly Pulitzer fabrics for a vibrant vibe.

House Beautiful-pink-room

The dining room is striking with fuchsia chairs and draperies and the Clarence House Flower Quince wallpaper is to die for, love it!

House Beautiful yellow-room-tableThe kitchen is bright with yellow touches as the kitchen cabinets offer a color break to ease the eye. Loving the bamboo ceiling light above the dining table and the bar-stools.

House Beautiful-yellow-bathroom-sinkThe powder room has a citrus-yellow wallpaper in a bamboo print. So pretty and fresh against the dark counter top.

House Beautiful-Blue-living-room

The master bedroom is in a favorite color “aqua” I just can’t seem to tire of it and it makes me happy. I love the darker aqua colors within the room and the window treatment fabric.

FASHION Home Decor

Let’s get inspired today with a little fashion and decor.  Fashion really does go hand and hand with interior design, both industries use pattern, texture and color to create a design.  With a degree in Fashion Design & Merchandising it gave me a real love and understanding for textiles and pattern.  When studying aboard in Paris I had the opportunity to visit some of the top design houses and attend some amazing fashion shows.  When I was there I took the tram everywhere and quickly fell in love with so much of the cities architecture and interior designs.  So it was no surprise that eventually I would get a second degree and study Interior Design then work for some of the top hospitality firms in California.
