How to Arrange Bed Pillows

Spring is right around the corner and is a great time to refresh our bedrooms with new bedding and accent pillows.  Today’s post is all about “How to Arrange Bed Pillows” and “Creating Stylish Bed Ensembles”.  Although there really aren’t any rules to arranging and dressing your bedroom ensemble it’s nice to achieve a clean and finished look.  Here are my top six bed pillow arrangements that I like to use:

STYLISH BED ENSEMBLES

These stylish bed ensembles includes some of the latest accent pillows and are broken up into four design styles.  Are you Modern, Global, Bold or Glamorous ?  From neutrals to brights there is something for every design style personality.

Stellar Interior Design Bed Pillow Ensemble

Modern Ensemble: Navy and purple are an unexpected color combo which are masculine and feminine.  This ensemble is mixed with a crisp lilac border and white euro sham paired with new Kara navy Greek key pillows and a new DL Rhein eclectic seismograph multicolored ikat accent pillow for a little edge.

Global Ensemble: For a fresh mix go for happy colors like yellows, greens and oranges.  This ensemble is a global chic look with a grass green medallion print Coronado Euro sham and Chiang Mai Asian throw pillow which pulls all the colors together.

Bold Ensemble: Black and whites are classic and make for a great foundation against most colors including the royal blue Cristal standard shams by Lorena Gaxiola. The graphic Agua Euro sham and Cielo accent bolster pillow are bold and current in their patterns.

Glamour Ensemble: Neutrals are beautiful and can still make a statement if you incorporate the right layering into your group.  Ivory silks and rayon’s with elegant velvet trims make up this glamorous ensemble.

How To Mix Fabric Patterns

Today I’m continuing my E-Book series on “How to Mix Fabric Patterns”.  As I mentioned in yesterdays post I created E-books for my subscribers and now I’m sharing them with all of my readers.  It can be a difficult task for many when it comes to coordinating fabrics and creating a cohesive look for one’s space.  With so many colors, patterns and textures to consider it can get a bit overwhelming.  I’ve put together a few tips to keep in mind when attempting to mix patterns.

MIXING FABRIC PATTERNS 101

Tip #1.  Group in odd numbers: sets of three’s work nicely.

Tip #2.  Contrast your color palette to create an interesting look and repeat the colors throughout your space.

Tip #3.  Consider the 60/30/10 Rule: 60% for your main pattern, 30% for the second and 10% for the accent.

Tip #4.   Start off by pulling colors from your main pattern first to apply to the second and third patterns so your grouping looks cohesive.

Tip #5.  If you are going for a more serene subtle look be sure to add in sheen’s and textured fabrics so that the space doesn’t go flat.

Tip #6. Try patterns in a range of scale sizes. Example: a large floral, a medium geometric and a small stripe while adding in your solid colors providing relief to the eye so that you avoid a busy look.

Tip #7.  Use large scale patterns in large spaces and small patterns for smaller spaces.

Tip #8.  If you would like your space to appear taller or larger consider using vertical and horizontal stripes.  This is very effective for larger areas creating the most impact like wallpaper, area rugs and drapery panels.

Remember to have fun and choose colors and patterns you absolutely love.  Patterns give personality to a space so don’t be afraid to use them.  Here are a few fabric pattern groups to give you the idea.

NEW CLIENT PROJECT : DESIGN CONCEPT

Retail Boutique Design Concept

Retail Boutique Design Ideas: It’s been a little while since I’ve featured a project so I wanted to share a retail design concept I did for a local boutique.  My client has an existing clothing store and wanted an updated look.  She expressed that she liked traditional glam and wanted that throughout the entire boutique with a soft color palette.  Here is a glimpse at the dressing room concept with an updated damask wallpaper.  The color story is in taupe, cream and brown with silver-leaf finishes.
